Adidas CP Traxion BOA Golf Shoe

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

INTRODUCTION

The Adidas CP Traxion BOA golf shoe was part of our quest to find a decent non-lace spiked golf shoe for under $50. Priced at just under $40, there seemed no better time to try out a BOA closure system, which I must confess I had some reservations about - including the worst-case scenario of writing off the $40 if it went south but at that price, it felt like a steal.

UNBOXING

Out of the box, there were some good vibes unwrapping the golf shoes - they looked nice and the colour scheme didn't feel 'busy'. In hand, they felt much like my last pair of spikeless shoes (and lighter than most spiked golf shoes) such that I even had to double-check that the spikes were real cleats. Finally, could this be a reasonably priced lightweight spiked golf shoe? Any more surprises for us? Well with this BOA system, feels like easy on... easy off is the 'name of the game'.

STYLE

The Adidas CP Traxion's styling feels like a hybrid design, with its modern accents and running shoe design - it's a decent looking golf shoe and simple enough with the subtle colours not to feel like an attention seeker. The BOA closure system is quite intuitive to use - making gentle clicking sounds as you rotate clockwise to tighten or anticlockwise to slacken. The position of the BOA fastener system, on the front/top of the shoe rather than the heel where some other golf shoes place them, refreshes the conventional golf shoe product with a sleeker and more functional design.

ON THE GOLF COURSE

On the course it was clear that this was NOT some half-baked golf shoe, it checked all the boxes and even exceeded expectations by delivering the performance that normally would be associated with higher-priced golf shoes.

No better place to test the traction of offer than on the tee box - there the Adidas CP Traxion gave a good account of itself during all phases of the golf swing, TBC. The X-Traxion secondary lugs and the deep flex grooves combine with the cleats to give good feedback through the Adiwear outsole and the Bounce midsole.

After over a dozen rounds of golf in these, they are holding up well. One of the few question marks I have is whether the 6-cleat spikes are sufficient to feel balanced - in the size 14/15, looking at the sole, there was a bit of space between the cleats especially towards the heel which has 2 cleats while the toe/mid-section had 4-cleats. Its water-proof credentials were not tested in the wet but in both hazards and uneven, it felt good. Did I forget to mention how comfortable they were?

CONCLUSION

The CP Traxion BOA by Adidas is a very solid spiked golf shoe that truly belongs on the golf course, expect a few comments about that BOA system. Getting the Adidas CP Traxion BOA in your size at less than $50 is a steal and just in case you come across this offer, it's a no-brainer if you are in the market for new golf shoes.

It delivers superb performance, thanks to the familiar Adidas tech like Bounce, Adiwear and X-Traxion that uses durable, lightweight and extremely comfortable materials, allowing you to grip greens crush your tee shot with confidence.

The BOA fastening system is refreshing and should be welcome by golfers that aren't into laces, detest repeatedly knotting shoes or are already used to turning that dial to loosen / tighten their golf shoes. What happens if the BOA locking mechanism fails or the thin ropes fail? With the global drive towards sustainable initiatives, it would be a shame if any issues with the BOA system means that the shoe is no longer useable.
